The Pixie |
| The
Pixie is a nice looking paper aeroplane. With its canard foreplanes, in
some ways it resembles modern European military aircraft, like the Saab
Grippen, the Dassault Rafale or the Eurofighter. It can fly quite well,
but is certainly not a record breaker. It's here because it looks good
and it flys in an interesting way. One of the most noticeable things
about the way it flies is the way the back wings flap slightly as it
travels forward. Also, although well-made versions of the plane can fly
in a quite stable way, the design tends to "dance" bit in the air - in
a way that is very difficult to describe using text alone! The pixie is also a useful plane for performing aerodynamic experiments on as it's front and back sets of wings can both be manipulated independently, which can help you get a better understanding of how paper aeroplanes fly. I'll put something up soon showing the expierments you can do with this plane and an example of its flight, but for now, just go ahead and build it and enjoying playing around. |
